Result of Florida Biodiversity Project

After five years of legal battles, the Florida Biodiversity Project forced the NPS into a final ORV Management Plan for Big Cypress National Preserve. The following hardened trail (rock road) is the result. The trail plan will be implemented over the ten years and is to be 400 miles long. It will cost the tax payers about 3 million dollars in 2002 and an additional 2 million dollars in year 2003. The following pictures were taken along the first portion of the hardened trail. It now takes 45 minutes to reach the recesses of the Big Cypress Swamp, that used to take about 2 hours to reach. This is certainly not what the Sportsmen of the Big Cypress National Preserve ever wanted to have happen.
